Qwetu sacco records improved growth with robust loan recovery and prudent financial management

Qwetu Sacco has continued to maintain a positive growth trajectory that has positioned it as a leading sacco not only in Taita- Taveta county but the whole of Coast region and beyond.

Addressing delegates during this year’s Annual Delegates Meeting(ADM)held at the Two Oceans hotel in Voi town, the sacco chairman Mr Simon Mbashu attributed the steady growth to the mutual cooperation between the sacco and its various stakeholders, including professionals, business operators and staff from different institutions.

“The progress we are witnessing is not a chance occurrence but something we have achieved through collective effort and sacrifice from stakeholders, including our members who have remained steadfast in supporting the society as it grows from strength to strength”, said the sacco chairman.

He pointed out that despite previous challenges the sacco was on a strong foundation , with all growth indicators showing a positive growth, anchored not only on expansion but diversity in the already existing structures.

Mr Mbashu in particular expressed satisfaction with the increased liquidity due to improved recovery of loans and part payment of the pending remittances from the county government of Taita Taveta.

“We have placed robust loan recovery mechanisms to ensure all those loaned monies by the sacco are able to repay within a reasonable time frame so that other deserving members can also benefit from the same facilities” said the chairman.

Among the remarkable growth indicators include growth in institutional capital of 48.7 per cent, core capital growth of 41.2 per cent and share capital of 34.8 per cent.

In general, the total revenue growth indicates the saccos financial stability in spite of the challenges being experienced in the corporate world.

During the meeting the delegates approved dividends of 6 per cent on share capital and 5 per cent on long term deposits which marks an improvement from the previous year’s rates. The sacco also reported notable growth in key capital adequacy ratios as required by the regulator.

“We remain guided by a deep commitment to transparency , trust and service to our members”, said Mr Mbashu adding that the society would leverage on the digital platform, innovation of products as well as standardization of sacco operations in order to provide quality and timely services to its members.

The CEO Mr Charles Kaba reiterated the sacco’s commitment to ensuring that the institution remained a key partner in supporting various initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of the people through its corporate social responsibility obligation.

Among the key areas the sacco has been supporting is provision of scholarships to needy students both from colleges and universities through the Kwetu Foundation.

So far 21 students have benefitted from the programme in which five of them graduated in December 2025 while 16 are still pursuing their studies.

Speaking during the event the guest of honour Mr Baldwin Olouch commended the sacco branch managers for their sterling performance and ensuring that the society operations remained vibrant and to members satisfaction.

Mr Olouch pointed out that for the sacco society to meet its goals and aspirations, staff and members who perform well must be adequately rewarded as a motivation to others
